1 Chronicles Chapter 13

The Ark Brought from Kirjath-jearim

1
DAVID

consulted with each of the commanders of thousands and hundreds, and with all the other leaders.  2  Then he said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if this is from the Lord our God, let us send out word to the rest of our brothers far and wide across Israel, including the priests and Levites in their towns and pasturelands, to gather together here with us.  3  Let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we did not inquire of the Lord beside the ark in the days of Saul.”  4  The whole assembly agreed to do this, for the proposal seemed right in the sight of all the people.

5 So David assembled all Israel together, from Shihor of Egypt to Lebo-hamath, to bring the Ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.  6  David and all Israel went to Baalah of Judah (that is, to Kiriath-jearim) to bring up from there the Ark of God the Lord, who is enthroned between the cherubim, the ark that is called by His Name.

7 They set the ark on a new cart at Abinadab’s house, and Uzzah and Ahio guided the cart.  8  David and all Israel were celebrating with all their might before God, with singing and with harps, and with lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.

9 When they came to the threshing floor at Chidon, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the ark, because the oxen stumbled.  10  The anger of the Lord burned against Uzzah, and He struck him down because he put his hand on the ark. So Uzzah died there before God.

11  David was angry because the Lord had broken out in wrath against Uzzah, and that place is called Perez-uzzah to this day.

12  David was afraid of God that day, and he said, “How can I ever bring the Ark of God to me?”  13  So David did not take the ark to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.  14  The Ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house three months, and the Lord blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that he had.
