the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.
Suddenly there was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came to the tomb. Then he rolled back the stone from the entrance of the tomb and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were as white as snow. 4 The guards were so terrified by him that they trembled with fear and became like dead men.
But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here, for He has risen, as He said. Come, see the place where He lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell His disciples: ‘He has been raised from the dead, and is going before you to Galilee. You will see Him there’. Now, I have told you.”
So the women hurried away from the tomb with fear and great joy, and they ran to tell His disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them, and said, “Greetings!” And they came to Him, took hold of Him by the feet, and worshipped Him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brothers to go to Galilee, and they will see Me there.”
While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 When the chief priests had assembled with the elders, they devised a plan together. They gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, 13 and told them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night, and stole Him away while we were sleeping’. 14 Then if this report reaches the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So they took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this day.
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain that Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshipped Him, but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
