all these things happen to you—the blessings and the curses that I have set before you—and you call them to mind in all the nations where the Lord your God has driven you. 2 and when you return to the Lord your God and obey His voice with all your heart and with all your soul, you and your children, in accordance with everything that I command you today, 3 then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the nations where the Lord your God has scattered you. 4 Even if you have been banished to the ends of the earth, the Lord your God will gather you from there, and from there He will bring you back. 5 The Lord your God will bring you into the land which you fathers possessed, and you will take possession of it; and He will make you more prosperous and more numerous than your fathers.
6 “The Lord your God will circumcise your heart
and the heart of your descendants,
so you will love the Lord your God
with all your heart and with all your soul,
so that you may live.
7 “The Lord your God will inflict all these curses on your enemies who hate you and persecute you. 8 Then you will again obey the voice of the Lord, and follow all His commands that I am giving you today. 9 Then the Lord your God will make you prosper abundantly in all the work of your hands, in the fruit of your womb, in the increase of your livestock and in the produce of your soil. For the Lord will again delight in your prosperity, even as He took delight in prosperity of your fathers, 10 If you obey the voice of the Lord your God to keep His commands and His statutes that are written in the Book of the Law, and return to the Lord your God will all your heart and with all your soul.
11 “For this command that I am giving you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it beyond your reach. 12 It is not in heaven, so that you should say, ‘Who will ascend into heaven for us, get it for us and proclaim it, so we may hear it and observe it?’ 13 Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you should say, ‘Who will cross over the sea for us and bring it to us, so we may hear it and observe it?’ 14 But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.
15 “See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity. 16 For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commands, His statutes, and His ordinances, so that you may live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
17 “But if your heart turns away so that you will not listen, but are led astray to bow down to other gods and worship them, 18 I declare to you today that you will surely perish; you will not live long in the land that you are crossing over the Jordan to enter and possess.
19 “I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. So choose life, so that both you and your descendants may live, 20 and that you may love the Lord your God, obeying His voice, and holding fast to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days, so that you may live in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.
