word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch son of Neriah, when he wrote these words on a scroll as Jeremiah dictated them in the fourth year of Jehoikim son of Josiah, king of Judah: 2 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you, O Baruch: 3 ‘You said, “Woe to me! The Lord has added sorrow to my pain; I am worn out with my groaning, and I find no rest”.
4 ‘This is what you are to say to him, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Behold, that which I have built I will break down, and that which I have planted I will uproot—this whole land! 5 But as for you, do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them! For behold, I will bring great harm upon all flesh’, declares the Lord; ‘but I will give you your life like a prize of war wherever you go’ ” ’.”
