allotment for the tribe of Judah by their clans lay to the south, from the wilderness of Zin to the border of Edom in the extreme south.
2 Their southern border began at the tip of the bay facing south on the Salt Sea, 3 and it went south of the ascent of Akrabbim, continued on to Zin, ascended on the south side of Kadesh-barnea, passed Hezron, ascended to Addar, and turned to Karka. 4 It proceeded along to Azmon and joined the Wadi of Egypt, ending at the sea. This will be your southern border.
5 The eastern border was along the Salt Sea to the mouth of the Jordan.
The border on the north side was from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan. 6 Then the border went up to Beth-hoglah, and continued north of Beth-arabah to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben. 7 The border then went to Debir from the Valley of Achor, and turned north to Gilgal, which is opposite the ascent of Adummim on the south side of the ravine. Then the border continued along to the waters of En-shemish and ended at En-rogel. 8 Then the border went up to the Valley of Ben-hinnom to the southern Jebusite slope (that is, Jerusalem), ascended to the top of the hill west of the Valley of Hinnom, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim. 9 From the hilltop the border extended to the spring of the Waters of Nephtoah, and along to the cities of Mount Ephron, and then curved around to Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim). 10 The border curved westward from Baalah to Mount Seir, went along the northern side of Mount Jearim (that is, Chesalon), continued down to Beth-shemesh, and went along to Timnah. 11 Then the border went out to the slope north of Ekron; and the border curved to Shikkeron, went along to Mount Baalah, continued to Jabneel, and ended at the sea.
12 The western border was at the coastline of the Great Sea.
This is the border surrounding the people of Judah by their clans.
13 Joshua gave Caleb son of Jephunneh a share among the people of Judah in accordance with the command of the Lord: Kiriath-arba, that is, Hebron (Arba was the forefather of Anak). 14 Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, descendants of Anak. 15 From there he marched against the people of Debir; (Debir was formerly named Kiriath-sepher). 16 And Caleb said, “I will give to him Achsah my daughter as wife to the man who attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it.” 17 Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, captured it; so Caleb gave his daughter Achsah to him as a wife.
18 When she arrived, she persuaded Othniel to ask her father for a field. As she got off her donkey, Caleb said to her, “What do you want?”
19 She replied, “Give me a blessing. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me springs of water also.” So he gave her the upper and lower springs.
20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the people of Judah by their clans.
