A Prophecy Against Moab

1
AN

oracle concerning Moab:

Ar in Moab is laid waste,
destroyed in a night! Kir in Moab is laid waste,
destroyed in a night! 2 Dibon has gone up to its temple,
to the high places to weep. Moab wails on Nebo and at Medeba. Every head is shaved,
and every beard is cut off. 3 In the streets they wear sackcloth;
on the rooftops and in the public squares everyone wails
and weeps bitterly. 4 Heshbon and Elealeh cry out,
their voices are heard as far away as Jahaz; therefore the armed men of Moab cry out,
and their hearts grow faint.

5 “My heart cries out for Moab;
his fugitives flee to Zoar, to Eglath-shelishiyah. At the ascent to Luhith
they go up weeping; on the road to Horonaim
they raise a cry of destruction. 6 The waters of Nimrim are desolate;
the grass is withered, the vegetation gone,
the green verdure is no more. 7 So the wealth they have acquired,
and all that they have laid up, they carry away
over the Ravine of the Willows. 8 Their outcry echoes around the land of Moab;
their wailing reaches to Eglaim, their wailing reaches to Beer-elim. 9 For the waters of Dibon are full of blood;
yet I will bring upon Dibon even more than this a lion for those of Moab who escape,
and for the remnant of the land.”
