The Book of Isaiah

Isaiah Chapter 54

The Future Glory of Zion

1“SING, O barren one,
who did not give birth;

burst into song and shout,
you who were never in labour! For more are the children of the desolate woman,
than the children of her who is married,” says the Lord.
2 “Enlarge the site of your tent,
and let the curtains of your dwellings be stretched out. Do not hold back;
lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes. 3 For you will spread out to the right and to the left;
your descendants will dispossess nations, and settle in the desolate cities.

4 “Do not fear, for you will not be put to shame;
do not be discouraged, for you will not be disgraced. You will forget the shame of your youth,
and the reproach of your widowhood you will remember no more. 5 For your Maker is your husband,
the Lord of Hosts is His name; the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer,
He is called the God of all the earth. 6 For the Lord has called you,
like a woman deserted and distressed in spirit, like the wife of a man’s youth when she is cast off,”
says your God.

7 “For a brief moment I deserted you,
but with deep compassion I will bring you back. 8 In a surge of anger
I hid My face for you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness
I will have compassion on you,” says the Lord, your Redeemer.

9 “For this is like the days of Noah to Me;
when I swore that the waters of never again cover the earth, so I have now sworn that I will not be angry with you,
nor will I rebuke you again. 10 For the mountains will depart,
and the hills be removed, but My steadfast love will not depart from you,
and My covenant of peace will not be removed,” says the Lord who has compassion on you.

11 “O afflicted one,
storm-tossed, and not comforted, I will build you with stones of turquoise,
and lay your foundations with sapphires. 12 I will make your battlements of rubies,
your gates of sparkling jewels, and your walls of precious stones. 13 Then all your children will be taught by the Lord,
and great will be the prosperity of your children. 14 In righteousness you will be established;
you will be far from oppression, you will having nothing to fear;
and from terror, for it will not come near you. 15 If anyone attacks you, it is not from Me;
whoever attacks you will fall before you.

16 “Behold, it is I who created the blacksmith,
who fans the coals in the fire, and forges a weapon suited to its purpose. It is I who created the destroyer to wreak havoc.
17No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue raised against you to accuse. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
and this is their vindication from Me,” says the Lord.
