The Book of Isaiah

Isaiah Chapter 46

The Gods of Babylon

1BEL bows down, Nebo stoops low;

their idols are borne by beasts and cattle. These objects you carry are loaded,
as heavy burdens on weary animals. 2 They stoop and bow down together;
they cannot rescue the burden, but they have gone off into captivity.

There is No One Like the Lord!

3 “Listen to Me, O house of Jacob,
all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been sustained by Me from birth,
and carried from the womb. 4 Even to your old age, I am He,
I will bear you up when you turn gray. I have made you and I will carry you;
I will sustain you and save you.

5 “To whom will you liken Me, or make Me equal?
To whom will compare Me, that we should be alike? 6 Those who pour out their gold from their purse,
and weigh their silver on scales they hire a goldsmith,
and he makes it into a god; then they bow down and worship it! 7 They bear it on their shoulders and carry it;
they set it up in its place, and it stands; from its place it cannot move. Though one cries out to it,
it does not answer; it cannot save him from his troubles.

8 “Remember this and consider,
take it to heart, O you transgressors. 9 Remember the former things of old,
for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me. 10 I declare the end from the beginning,
and from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: ‘My design will stand,
and I will do all that I please’. 11 From the east I call in a bird of prey,
the man for My purpose from a far country. Indeed, I have spoken; and I will bring it to pass;
as I have planned, that I will do.

12 “Listen to Me, you stubborn-hearted,
you who are far from justice: 13 I will bring My justice near;
it is not far away; and My salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion,
My splender to Israel.”
