Judgment of the Deceitful

For the director of music. A Maskil of David. When Doeg the Edomite went to Saul and told him: “David has gone to the house of Ahimelech.”

1WHY do you boast of evil, O mighty man?
The goodness of God endures continually.

2 Your tongue schemes destruction,
it is like a sharpened razor, working treachery. 3 You love evil rather than good,
and lying instead of speaking truthfully.  Selah 4 You love all words that devour,
O you deceitful tongue.   5 But God will bring you down forever;
He will snatch you and rip you out of your tent; He will uproot you from the land of the living.  Selah 6 The righteous will see it and be filled with awe;
they will laugh at him and say, 7 “Here is the man
who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches,
and grew strong by his destructive wickedness.”   8 But I am like a green olive tree
flourishing in the house of God; I trust in the faithful love of God
forever and ever. 9 I will praise You forever for what You have done,
in the presence of Your saints. In Your name I will hope, for it is good.
